Gratitude

I am grateful for...

  • Duke and their programs, DukeEngage and the Brodhead Service Fellowship, for presenting me with these opportunities and making civic engagement an available option for students. Without the support of these programs, I would not have the same appreciation for service and my community that I do today.

  • The Community Fund of Darien for lifting me up these past two summers; it has been so rewarding to work with them and be a part of the team. I am incredibly thankful for all the staff here, especially Charla and Janet, who were always so approachable and knowledgeable.

  • My alumni mentor, Lauren Gardner, who was also an amazing resource and a role model to me throughout this time.

  • My parents and my sister who support me in every undertaking and opportunity.

  • A sudden change in plans. I can’t say I’m grateful for COVID, but without this sudden change in plans, I would not have had these two summers of civic engagement.

  • Each project I could be a part of. I know that not only was I able to make some kind of difference but I also learned a lot of hard and soft skills that I will take with me.

  • The Darien, Stamford, and Norwalk communities. This is where I grew up and it’s been a valuable experience to approach these places with a new lens.
